Carlow County Council is delighted to announce the publication of Saved & Savoured – Celebrating Carlow’s Food Without the Waste, an inspiring new community‑driven recipe book that celebrates the very best of Carlow’s culinary creativity while helping households take simple, practical steps to reduce food waste.

Carlow County Council launched it Community-Based Circular Economy Report at the Tinryland Community Hub on Tuesday 1st April. This research forms part of Carlow County Council’s ongoing commitment to delivering on its Climate Action Plan and sustainability objectives. The report identifies current circular practices across the community of Carlow and identifies opportunities for further development, including enhanced collaboration, expanded education and training, and continued support for grassroots organisations delivering circular solutions locally.

Carlow County Council is encouraging residents to give unwanted clothing, paired shoes, and household textiles a “second life” through responsibly managed donations, as part of a national campaign aimed at reducing the 110,000 tonnes of textiles discarded annually in Ireland - the equivalent of about 440 million T-shirts.

Carlow County Council has reaffirmed its commitment to community wellbeing, sustainability, and positive lifestyle change through the Embracing Change programme - an energetic series of events designed to bring people together and inspire simple, meaningful shifts in everyday life. Delivered by the Council’s Environment and Community Departments in partnership with Healthy Carlow and a wide network of local agencies, the initiative continues to flourish as a powerful platform for learning, connection, and empowerment.

Carlow County Council’s Environment and Libraries sections, supported by Libraries Ireland’s Skills for Life programme, successfully launched the county’s first pilot Seed Library, bringing local growers, community groups and educators together to strengthen community resilience, reduce waste and support climate action.

Secondary school students from across Co.Carlow showcased their creativity, innovation and business skills at the 2026 Student Enterprise Awards, held on Wednesday 11th March in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel. The event showcased talented students from across the county who demonstrated exceptional creativity, business skills and entrepreneurial spirit.

Over 70 Carlow businesswomen came together in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel to celebrate International Women’s Day with the Powerhouse network and guest speaker Emma Maye, CEO of Ardale Property.

On Tuesday, 24th March 2026, the elegant Ballykealey House Hotel in Ballon, Co. Carlow will host Embracing Change: An Evening of Health & Wellbeing - a warm, community-focused event designed to inspire healthier living, stronger connections, local food, and practical environmental action.
