Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service represented Ireland at an international event in Croatia September 9th-14th 2025.  Sub Officer Danial Fitzpatrick and Firefighter Ronan Boyle placed 1st for the trauma challenge at the national Rescue Organisation Ireland competition staged at the OBI training Centre in Dublin earlier in the year. 

Féile an Fhómhair ’25, Carlow’s popular autumn bilingual festival, has an amazing programme of events lined up. Organised by Glór Cheatharlach and running from 26 September to 5 October, the festival celebrates all things local and environmental.

On Tuesday, 7 October 2025, Carlow will host a unique event designed to empower local organisations, businesses, and community groups to engage more effectively with Europe. The workshop, titled “EU: A Catalyst for Change – Designing EU Projects & International Collaboration”, will take place at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

Empowering Business Resilience – Inspired by the community spirit of the GAA and the strength of Carlow’s homegrown business network, the Club Carlow Business Summit will bring together some of Ireland’s most influential voices in sport and business for a unique gathering that celebrates resilience, teamwork, and leadership.

A grassroots green revolution is taking root in Carlow, thanks to a dynamic partnership between Carlow County Council and Composting Ireland. This summer, 22 enthusiastic volunteers from 11 community groups came together for a transformative Master Composting course, led by renowned composting expert Craig Benton - better known as Dr Compost.

This October, the tranquil beauty of the Delta Sensory Gardens will take on an otherworldly glow as Samhain Festival 2025 transforms the pathways into a gently haunted landscape where nature and folklore entwine. Shadows lengthen, spirits stir, and something – or someone – may be waiting just around the corner.

Carlow County Council is proud to host From Plate to Planet: Waste Less, Save More, a regional conference designed to help hospitality businesses across the Southeast reduce food waste, save money, and build a more sustainable future.

The world, as we know it, is a place of routine and predictability. But as the shadows lengthen and the days grow shorter, there comes a moment when the veil between this world and the Otherworld thins. In County Carlow, this ancient transition is not a time for fear, but for celebration. Journey into Samhain Festival 25, a town-wide celebration rooted in the ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest and the coming of winter. This is a time when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest and spirits walk among the living.

Carlow may be inland, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make waves in protecting our oceans!

Once again, this September, Carlow County Council is proud to support the Big Beach Clean, a nationwide initiative led by Clean Coasts and part of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC). While coastal communities will be tackling litter on beaches, here in County Carlow we’re taking action along our riverbanks, because litter dropped in towns and cities is one of the leading causes of marine pollution.

5th September 2025, Carlow will be represented on the European stage through the participation of two local crafters, Isabel Lucas and Clare Jordan, in Stone & Soul: Sustainable Lithography, Linoleum and Paper for Contemporary Artists. This three-day hybrid workshop, hosted by the Craft Academy Sweden at the Helliden Folk High School in Skövde, is widely recognised as a significant forum for the advancement of sustainable craft practices in Europe.
