Carlow is set to light up this October as FIRE NIGHT returns to the grounds of Carlow College and VISUAL on Friday 24 October 2025. Part of the Samhain Festival 25, this fiery spectacle blends world-class performance, music, and pyrotechnics into a night the whole family will remember. Carlow County Council, in collaboration with local community organisations, presents Climate Action Week 2025, running from October 6th to 13th. This vibrant week of free events is designed to empower everyone in our community—regardless of age, background, or experience—to take simple, positive steps toward climate action.

Carlow’s vibrant food scene takes centre stage this autumn as celebrity chef Rachel Allen joins some of the county’s top chefs for a live cookery demonstration. The event takes place at the Seven Oaks Hotel on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 at 8 p.m., marking the official launch of Carlow Restaurant Week, running from Saturday, October 25th – Sunday, November 2nd.

Primary schools across County Carlow are invited to participate in an inspiring literacy initiative designed to spark creativity and foster a love of reading and writing among young people. The Right to Read Programme, coordinated by Carlow County Council – Economic Development & Library Service, in partnership with Carlow County Development Partnership, Carlow College, St. Patrick’s, and Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet, is now in its third year and is set to engage 4th, 5th, and 6th class students in a fun and meaningful way.

 Carlow County Council, in partnership with Re-turn—the administrator of Ireland’s Deposit Return Scheme—has installed 25 new bin surrounds across Carlow Town Centre, reinforcing the Council’s commitment to sustainability and cleaner public spaces. The surrounds are now in place across 11 key streets including Burren Street, Hanover Park, and Tullow Street, making it easier for residents and visitors to recycle plastic bottles and cans while on the move.

Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service represented Ireland at an international event in Croatia September 9th-14th 2025.  Sub Officer Danial Fitzpatrick and Firefighter Ronan Boyle placed 1st for the trauma challenge at the national Rescue Organisation Ireland competition staged at the OBI training Centre in Dublin earlier in the year. 

Féile an Fhómhair ’25, Carlow’s popular autumn bilingual festival, has an amazing programme of events lined up. Organised by Glór Cheatharlach and running from 26 September to 5 October, the festival celebrates all things local and environmental.

On Tuesday, 7 October 2025, Carlow will host a unique event designed to empower local organisations, businesses, and community groups to engage more effectively with Europe. The workshop, titled “EU: A Catalyst for Change – Designing EU Projects & International Collaboration”, will take place at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

A grassroots green revolution is taking root in Carlow, thanks to a dynamic partnership between Carlow County Council and Composting Ireland. This summer, 22 enthusiastic volunteers from 11 community groups came together for a transformative Master Composting course, led by renowned composting expert Craig Benton - better known as Dr Compost.

This October, the tranquil beauty of the Delta Sensory Gardens will take on an otherworldly glow as Samhain Festival 2025 transforms the pathways into a gently haunted landscape where nature and folklore entwine.
