Public libraries provide a range of free, online language courses to library members.

Transparent Language is Carlow Libraries’ online language learning app, and can be downloaded to all Android and ioS devices. The app provides access to 110 plus languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian and Irish but also more exotic tongues such as Afrikaans, Bengali, Breton, Dakota, Farsi, and Maori. For those learning English as a second language, you can do so through thirty-one interface languages. Thus, you can study English through French, German and Spanish etc. but also through Thai, Arabic, Turkish and Romanian for example.

Transparent Language also offers a service aimed specifically at children, KidSpeak, which is available on the same platform.
