You can report faulty public lighting to the private operator maintaining the lights on behalf of the local authority.

Public Lighting Fault Reporting

Carlow County Council is responsible for the provision and maintenance of public lighting throughout the county. Public lighting maintenance is carried out on behalf of the Council by Killaree Lighting Services.

How do I report a public lighting fault?

If you notice a streetlight that is not working, flickering, damaged, or otherwise defective, please report it through the Dead Sure App site. This is the quickest and most efficient way to ensure the fault is logged and attended to promptly. 

Alternatively, you can email roadsoffice@carlowcoco.ie with the following information:

  • Town, village, or street name
  • Pole number (if available)
  • Location of the light (for example, outside House No. 8)
  • Your name and contact details

Please Note

  • If a housing estate has not been taken in charge by Carlow County Council, the developer remains responsible for the maintenance of the public lighting. In these instances, any faults should be reported directly to the developer.
  • Where a fault is caused by an underground power cable, the issue must be referred to ESB Networks. As a result, repairs may take longer to complete.
