Although it may still be August, preparations for Christmas are already underway across County Carlow, with local communities now invited to apply for funding assistance to support festive lighting displays this Christmas season.
As part of Budget 2026, Carlow County Council is providing grant assistance to communities throughout the county to help cover the costs associated with purchasing, erecting, dismantling and maintaining Christmas lights on public streets and in town and village centres.
The annual scheme aims to support local groups in creating vibrant and welcoming Christmas displays that enhance the festive atmosphere, encourage residents and visitors to shop locally, and contribute to the overall appeal of towns and villages across Carlow during the holiday season.
Applications for the 2026 Christmas Lights Grant Scheme open on 10 August 2026 and will remain open until 18 September 2026.
Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise at Carlow County Council said: “Christmas lights play an important role in creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere in our towns and villages each year. Through this grant scheme, Carlow County Council is pleased to support community groups and local businesses in delivering high-quality Christmas lighting displays that will bring festive cheer to residents and visitors while supporting local economic activity during the holiday season.”
Community organisations and town committees and other eligible organisations are encouraged to submit their applications before the closing date.
