Carlow Climate Action Week 2026 Brings Communities Together for a Packed Programme of Free Events
From energy-saving advice and biodiversity projects to youth workshops, film screenings, community gardening and sustainable living demonstrations, Carlow Climate Action Week 2026 will showcase how local people, organisations and businesses are working together to create a more sustainable future for County Carlow.
Organised by Carlow County Council, Carlow Climate Action Week takes place from 3–12 October 2026, bringing together over 40 activities and events across the county. The programme includes practical workshops, expert talks, family-friendly activities, community initiatives, business events, nature-based projects, and hands-on demonstrations designed to make climate action accessible, relevant, and achievable for everyone.
One of the strongest themes running through this year's programme is collaboration. Climate Action Week brings together community groups, schools, businesses, researchers, public agencies, sporting organisations, libraries and volunteers in a shared effort to reduce emissions, protect biodiversity, support sustainability, and build climate resilience across County Carlow. Partners include organisations such as Carlow PPN, Teagasc, VISUAL Carlow, Carlow Library Service, County Carlow Environmental Network (CCEN), SEEA Energy Engineers, Carlow Local Enterprise Office, resident associations, schools, community groups, and many others.
Something for Everyone
The programme demonstrates that climate action can take many forms. Residents can attend home energy advice clinics, learn about grants and retrofitting opportunities, discover ways to help pollinators and biodiversity, participate in community planting initiatives, explore rainwater harvesting solutions, attend repair and reuse workshops, develop practical upcycling skills or learn about cutting-edge scientific research taking place right here in Carlow.
Among the highlights is the Fabric of Change Pop-Up Shop at Potato Market in Carlow Town, which will host clothing swaps, repair and reuse demonstrations, creative upcycling workshops and activities for young people. The initiative will demonstrate how extending the life of clothing and materials can reduce waste while encouraging creativity and new skills.
In addition to the public programme, a number of organisations, schools and workplaces across the county are organising their own internal Climate Action Week activities.
These events are designed to increase awareness and understanding of climate issues while demonstrating that positive climate action can often be simple, practical, and affordable.
"What is particularly exciting about this year's programme is the sheer variety of opportunities available to people," said Jannette O'Brien, Climate Action Coordinator with Carlow County Council. "Climate action can mean learning how to reduce your energy bills, helping wildlife in your local area, repairing and reusing items you already own, planting for pollinators, exploring new technologies or simply learning something new. There really is something for everyone."

Communities, researchers, businesses, schools, public bodies, and volunteers are all contributing their time, expertise, and enthusiasm. Together they are showing that climate action is not something that happens elsewhere. It is happening in our towns, villages, schools, workplaces, and community spaces every day." she adds.

We want as many people as possible to experience Climate Action Week and discover that taking climate action does not have to be difficult or expensive. Often, small actions taken by lots of people can have the greatest collective impact."
