Loc8code: Public Safety Initiative

Carlow County Council has launched Loc8code – an Emergency Access Points initiative designed to improve public safety and strengthen emergency response across the county.

Emergency Access Points are clearly identified locations that allow first responders to reach people quickly in areas where traditional addresses or navigation can be difficult. From rural landscapes and riverways to recreational spaces, these markers provide a simple, reliable reference that can be shared with ambulance, fire, or rescue services in the event of an emergency.

This initiative reflects Carlow County Council’s commitment to community wellbeing, accessibility, and safety. By reducing response times, it ensures that residents and visitors alike can feel safer while enjoying everything Carlow has to offer.

The project has been developed with the support of Christy Ward, a local volunteer and member of the National Ambulance Service, and Gary Delaney, creator of Loc8code. It is being progressed and promoted through the combined efforts of Carlow County Council, Active Carlow, Carlow Tourist Office, the Municipal District Offices of County Carlow, and Elected Representatives of Carlow County Council.

Together, we’re building a safer Carlow.

Phase one of the Loc8code signage was launched on the River Barrow as Part of Bagenalstown in Bloom in June 2025.

Phase two of the Loc8code signage will be piloted in September 2025.
