Important Notice: Temporary Pause on Private Housing Grant Applications

Due to exceptionally high demand and the large volume of applications already processed in 2025, Carlow County Council will temporarily pause the general acceptance of private housing grant applications, effective from 30th June 2025, for the following grants:

  • Housing Adaptation Grants (HAGs)
  • Mobility Aid Grants (MAGs)
  • Housing for Older Persons (HOPs)

This pause is necessary to ensure that the Council can fulfil existing commitments and prioritise applicants with the most urgent medical and care needs.

Carlow County Council recognises the scheme aims to support vulnerable members of the community to remain in their homes and within their communities for as long as possible. Therefore, going forward, only Priority 1 applications will be assessed.  This will be done on a case-by-case basis and will be funding dependent.  Priority 1 applications relate to cases where the person is terminally ill or primarily dependent on family or a carer or where adaptations to the home would support them leaving hospital/residential care.

The situation will be reviewed at the end of October 2025

The temporary pause is expected to remain in place until November 2025, when it is anticipated that applications may reopen under the 2026 budget allocation.

Please note:

  • All other unapproved applications other than Priority 1 currently on hand or received will be returned to the applicants advising them that a temporary pause on the scheme has taken effect.
  • For queries regarding eligibility or the status of an existing application, please contact the Housing Grants Team at Carlow County Council.

Carlow County Council appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
