Carlow County Council Offering Free WEEE Drop Off Days in Communities Across Carlow Over the Coming Weeks

Recycling Bin with Electronic Equipment

Carlow County Council in partnership with WEEE Ireland, who are  the national organisation responsible for managing the recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment in Ireland, are delighted to announce a suite of free WEEE drop off days in communities across Carlow over the coming weeks.

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and refers to discarded electrical or electronic devices which means any item that would normally require a plug or a battery.

These items often contain hazardous materials like mercury so appropriate recycling is crucial to prevent environmental damage and recover valuable resources like metals and plastics.

Householders, Organisations, Schools  and Businesses across the County can bring any household waste electrical items from Fridges to Phones, Laptops to Lawnmowers, Toys to Power Tools, and everything in-between to one of the 5 drop off events running from the end of June to the 2nd week in July.

“ Electrical waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally.  By ensuring you dispose of all of your old electrical items correctly and reusing components and materials we are supporting the Circular Economy. We also reduce the need for raw material extraction and energy-intensive manufacturing. It’s not just about getting rid of old gadgets—it’s about giving them a second life and protecting the planet in the process.”

Don’t be disappointed if you miss these dates as you can recycle all of your old WEEE for free throughout the year at Powerstown Civic Amenity site.
