Carlow County Council is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2025 Festival and Events Grant Scheme. Designed to support the creation, development, and promotion of festivals and events across County Carlow, this scheme aims to enhance the local tourism industry and provide engaging experiences for residents and visitors alike.

The scheme includes a combination of events directly organised by Carlow County Council, events developed in partnership with organisations that share similar objectives, and independent events that receive funding through a competitive application process.

Cllr. Fergal Browne, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, welcomed the launch of the scheme, stating: “Festivals and events play a crucial role in fostering community spirit, promoting our cultural heritage, and driving tourism in County Carlow. The Festival and Events Grant Scheme is an important initiative that enables organisers to create engaging, high-quality experiences that contribute to the local economy and showcase all that Carlow has to offer. I encourage all eligible groups to apply and bring their creative ideas to life.”

Applications for events taking place between June and October 2025 will be accepted from 4th February 2025 to 28th February 2025. The scheme is open to non-commercial groups or organisations hosting events within County Carlow.

Linda Culleton, Economic Development Officer with Carlow County Council, highlighted the importance of the scheme, stating: “Our goal is to provide meaningful support to festival and event organisers who are committed to enhancing Carlow’s tourism offering. This scheme is designed to help develop events that generate economic, social, and cultural benefits for the county. We are particularly interested in initiatives that animate public spaces in innovative ways and attract visitors from outside the region. With funding opportunities ranging from €750 for small-scale, family-focused events to up to €5,000 for large-scale tourism festivals, we look forward to seeing a diverse range of applications.”

Funding categories include:

  • Small Scale Festival & Events – Family Focus Fund: Up to €750 per event (max 75% funding) for single-day events that provide engaging visitor experiences.
  • Large Scale Tourism Festival Funding: Up to €5,000 per event (max 75% funding) for festivals that demonstrate strong tourism and economic impact, including attracting at least 400 ticketed visitors and employing a regional and national marketing approach.
