Carlow County Council, in collaboration with local community organisations, presents Climate Action Week 2025, running from October 6th to 13th. This vibrant week of free events is designed to empower everyone in our community—regardless of age, background, or experience—to take simple, positive steps toward climate action.

Cllr. Ken Murnane, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council said “Climate Action Week 2025 is a celebration of inclusion, inspiration, and impact—empowering everyone in our community to take part in meaningful climate action. The week offers a diverse range of events that demonstrate how small, everyday choices can lead to significant benefits for our environment, wellbeing, and local economy.”

The programme celebrates the co-benefits of sustainability, including better health, stronger local economies, and deeper community connections. Whether you're planting your first vegetable, swapping clothes for a more sustainable wardrobe, or learning how to reduce energy bills, every action contributes to a more resilient and thriving Carlow.

Carlow Community Climate Action Fund Launch offers a valuable opportunity for local groups and organisations to access funding for grassroots climate projects. Whether you're a climate champion or simply curious, this initiative is about empowering communities to take meaningful action. The launch will provide guidance, inspiration, and practical support to help turn local ideas into impactful climate solutions.

Participants can get hands-on with sustainability by learning to grow their own food in organic veg workshops and creating low-carbon floral arrangements at the Sustainable Blooms sessions. They will also have an opportunity to meet their local food producers & farmers at an evening event. These engaging activities promote healthier lifestyles, support local food systems, and reduce environmental impact. Attendees are also invited to step outdoors and discover how tree and fruit bush planting can enhance local spaces, offering free organic produce for both people and wildlife. These nature-based actions foster biodiversity, strengthen community ties, and contribute to long-term climate resilience.

Creativity meets climate awareness through events like the free screening of Fashion Reimagined and the Clothes Swap & Eco Fashion Show, which explore the environmental impact of fashion and offer stylish, sustainable alternatives. These experiences invite the community to rethink consumption and embrace positive change in fun, engaging ways.

Climate Action Week 2025 isn’t just for individuals and communities—it’s also supporting local businesses in leading the way. One standout event is From Plate to Planet, a powerful half-day conference for hospitality professionals hosted by Carlow County Council. The session focuses on practical strategies to cut food waste, save money, and drive climate action in the food sector. Attendees will hear from top chefs, innovators, and sustainability experts, gaining valuable insights into how everyday choices in hospitality can benefit both the planet and the bottom line. Lunch is included, and booking is essential.

“Climate Action Week 2025 is about empowering everyone in our community to take simple, meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future” says Jannette O Brien Climate Action Coordinator with Carlow County Council. “Whether you're a climate champion or simply curious, we invite everyone in our community to get involved and learn how small actions can make a big difference—for our environment, our wellbeing, and our shared future.”
