Carlow County Council wishes to advise that the temporary bathing prohibition notice previously in place for the Designated Bathing Areas in Bagenalstown on the River Barrow has now been lifted, following satisfactory water quality results.
However, due to the natural flow of the River Barrow, contamination has now moved downstream and is affecting water quality further along the river.
Based on this, Public Health Officials have recommended a temporary Bathing Prohibition Notice at the following Designated Bathing Areas on the River Barrow:
🔹 Clashganny Amenity Designated Bathing Area on the River Barrow
🔹 Clashganny Weir Designated Bathing Area on the River Barrow
This notice is in place due to failed water quality tests indicating high levels of bacteria at both sites.
Carlow County Council will continue to carry out regular testing and investigations, and will provide updates as soon as results indicate it is safe to reopen the Clashganny Designated Bathing Areas on the River Barrow.
We understand the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Further updates will be shared on social media and via our website.
