Since 1949, Shaws has been an integral part of the Carlow Town Centre experience, nestled on Lower Tullow Street. Having contributed to the vibrancy of our County Carlow for generations, Shaws further invested €13 million in 2005 to develop its current 32,000 square feet store. Now, in 2024, a refurbishment of the premises is underway, promising to usher in a fresh retail experience for Carlow Town.
Attending a special preview of developments which will officially open during April , Cllr. Tom O’Neill , Mayor of Carlow Municipal District said “2024 marks another significant milestone in the vibrant history of Lower Tullow Street and Shaws in Carlow. This investment not only underscores Shaws commitment to enhancing the shopper experience but also reaffirms their dedication to the community in County Carlow”.
Conrad Digan, CEO of Shaws said “Our customers are at the heart of everything we do in Shaws and our relaunched Carlow store offers our customers the most extensive range of fashion, home and beauty under one roof in the region. Pelo hairdressing is part of our extended customer service proposition and we welcome new international brands including Forever New and Athlecia to the Shaw family. Our incredible team in Carlow continue to provide outstanding Shaws personal service for all our loyal customers and those who are visiting for the first time. We look forward to welcoming all of our customers to our official launch event on April 11th from 6 to 8pm for an evening full of giveaways, goodie bags and entertainment”.
Shaws Carlow employs 55 store colleagues, with a further 30 employed through concessions and our Central Distribution Centre, which is also based in Carlow, employs 23.

Regeneration of Carlow Town Centre is a priority for Carlow County Council as part of a suite of ambitious Countywide projects the Council is undertaking. Speaking about the ambition of the Council , Coilín O'Reilly , Chief Executive of Carlow County Council said “As we embark on the exhilarating path of revitalization, we welcome this investment by Shaws, which will seamlessly complement our ongoing efforts to enhance Carlow Town Centre. With a spectrum of initiatives including festivals, events, the Carlow Exchange, library services, and our forthcoming URDF investment, the County Town is poised for a transformative surge in investment over the ensuing years. Concluding the Chief Executive said “This collaborative effort holds the potential to ignite economic, social, and cultural growth, nurturing a enhanced atmosphere for both visitors and residents. We look forward to collaborating with our stakeholders in the years ahead”.
