The third annual Powerhouse Picnic, organised by Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office in collaboration with Network Ireland Carlow, was held at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Carlow with TV Presenter Lucy Kennedy as Master of Ceremonies. This event, attracted over 120 professionals from diverse industries, offering a unique opportunity for networking, learning, and growth.
The Powerhouse Picnic was an excellent opportunity to build new connections and expand people’s professional network. The event brought together a dynamic line-up of accomplished women to discuss and celebrate female empowerment and success in various fields. The event featured insightful panel discussions with prominent leaders who shared their journeys and insights on supporting women in the workplace and beyond.
The event commenced with the engaging panel discussion "Women Supporting Women," with Melissa Doyle – Business Advisor, Local Enterprise Office, Stacey Phelan – EU Projects Co-Ordinator, Local Enterprise Office, Gemma Purcell – Enterprise Development Manager SETU Carlow, Edel Maher – Bank Manager Bank of Ireland, and Megan Manning – President of Network Ireland Carlow. This panel explored strategies and personal experiences aimed at fostering a supportive environment for women in professional settings.
Following this inspiring session was the panel "Her Story, Her Success," with Lucy Mullins – Manager at MMPS Carpentry, Lucy Gernon – Executive Coach at 3Sixty Leaders Club, Niamh Hogan – Founder of Holos Skincare, and Shauna Doyle of Doyle’s Tarmacadam, who shared their unique stories of overcoming challenges and achieving success in their respective careers. This discussion highlighted the diverse paths to success and underscored the importance of sharing stories to inspire future generations of women leaders.
The panellists key messages included navigating the dynamics of family-run businesses and the journey of creating their own standalone successful enterprises all while juggling the everyday responsibilities of having a family at home. The panellists emphasised the importance of mentorship and networking for career progression, the necessity for resilience and determination and adaptability in overcoming gender-specific challenges. The panellists highlighted the importance of self-advocacy, sharing insights on breaking barriers and attaining leadership positions. They also highlighted the evolving dynamics of work-life balance and the need for policies that facilitate women's professional development.
Cllr. Fergal Browne, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, highlighted the significance of the Powerhouse Picnic, "The presence and participation of women in business events are not just about representation; they are about transformation. Women bring diverse perspectives, drive innovation, and inspire future leaders. Their voices are essential in shaping a more inclusive and successful business world".
Fergal also commented on the importance of women in business networking: "Networking among women in business is crucial as it cultivates a supportive environment where women can connect, collaborate, and thrive".
