Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committees

Local authorities may form committees to consult with travellers about the Traveller Accommodation Programme.

Sections 21& 22 of the Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act 1998 require that each Local Authority to have a Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee (LTACC) to advise on the provision and management of accommodation.

Role of the LTACC

  • Advise in relation to the preparation and implementation of any accommodation programme for the functional area
  • Advise on the management of accommodation for Travellers and
  • Provide a liaison between Travellers and members and officials of the appointing authority

In addition to the role under Sections 21 and 22, the Housing Authority must: -

  • Give notice to the committee of it’s intention to carry out an assessment of accommodation needs
  • Have regard to the views if any of the committee in making an assessment
  • Give notice to the committee of it’s intention to prepare a draft accommodation programme
  • Provide the committee with a copy of the published notice indicating its intention to adopt an accommodation programme
  • Provide the committee with a copy of the draft programme which has been submitted to members,
  • Furnish the committee with a copy of the adopted programme

Composition of the Committee

  1. Elected members of the appointing authority
  2. Officials of the appointing authority
  3. Representatives of Local Travellers and Traveller Groups
