Charity Shops

The Environment Section of Carlow County Council would like to recognize the key role Charity Shops make by facilitating the public to donate items such as clothes, jewellery, kitchen utilises and small items of furniture which extends their lifecycle, reduces waste volumes, and sustains the work of charities locally.

Textile Bank Service

The service aims to increase the recycling of textiles by enabling people to dispose of unwanted clothes in a way that supports the circular economy.

Unwanted clothes are segregated into reusable and waste items. There is a network of textile recycling banks located throughout the county, which are operated by charities or businesses. Textile recycling is an important part of the waste management system, as it helps to reduce the amount of textiles that end up in landfill. Textiles are collected from the recycling banks and exported to other countries, where they are sorted and sold for reuse. This helps to extend the lifespan of textiles and reduce the need for new textiles to be produced.

Please Note:

Duvets or pillows are not accepted into these banks.
