Environmental Awareness Initiatives

Local authorities may run environmental awareness initiatives as part of their environmental protection activities.

Carlow County Council coordinate regular awareness campaigns and events to encourage and support communities, businesses, schools, and individuals to contribute positively towards environmental protection, eliminate negative behaviours and activities, and tackle ongoing environmental issues.

Carlow County Council aims to be proactive in this regard, and communities, businesses, schools, and individuals are always encouraged to contact Carlow County Council with proposals, by phone, 059 9136231, or by email, environment@carlowcoco.ie

Fabric of Change - Carlow

Fabric of Change Carlow is a community-based sustainable fashion initiative being delivered in Carlow in partnership with VOICE Ireland. The project aims to tackle fast fashion, textile waste and overconsumption by helping people adopt more circular approaches to clothing through repair, reuse, swapping, upcycling and more conscious purchasing choices.

The Carlow project is part of the wider Fabric of Change programme and is designed to develop and trial local solutions to textile waste with and for the community. The initiative builds on existing sustainable fashion work already undertaken by VOICE Ireland and is supported through funding from Zero Waste Europe.

Made to Last September 2026

The Made to Last project is part of the Fabric of Change Carlow Programme. This vibrant community initiative is  designed to tackle fast fashion and embrace circular living across County Carlow. Through activation projects, local clothing swaps, and hands-on repair workshops, we are bringing people together to rethink how we buy, use, and care for our textiles. By choosing quality over speed and repair over waste, we can keep clothing out of
landfills and build a more sustainable future.

This adult workshop programme is part of SDG Week Ireland, a national initiative driving action for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By encouraging a shift away from fast fashion, the Made to Last programme directly supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13: Climate Action. Together, Carlow County Council and VOICE Ireland are transforming global climate goals into practical, local      actions—proving that small, circular habits in our community can make a massive impact worldwide.

Fabric of Change - Carlow Pop up Shop - October 2026

The Fabric of Change Carlow Pop-Up Shop, taking place at the Potato Market as part of Carlow Climate Action Week 2026, will provide a welcoming and interactive space where people can explore practical ways to reduce textile waste and make more sustainable fashion choices.

The pop-up shop is designed to be more than just an exhibition. It is a hands-on community space where people can learn new skills, share ideas, find inspiration and discover how small changes in the way we buy, wear, repair and dispose of clothing can have a positive impact on both the environment and household budgets. Through a programme of events and activities running throughout the week, the initiative aims to encourage a shift towards a more circular and sustainable fashion culture in Carlow.

Take a look through the Fabric of Change Carlow event programme and drop into the pop-up shop during Climate Action Week 2026 to discover how sustainable fashion can be practical, affordable, creative and fun.
