Revised Fire Safety Certificate

You must apply to the local authority for a Revised Fire Safety Certificate if you are changing the design or works which may alter your original Fire Safety Certificate.

BUILDING CONTROL SECTION

The Building Control section concerns itself with promoting and ensuring minimum standards of construction in County Carlow. It achieves this in a number of ways, including design oversight via the Fire Safety Certificates and Disability Access Certificates, Inspection of ongoing developments, and public awareness.

FIRE SAFETY CERTIFICATES

There is a requirement to apply for and obtain a Fire Safety Certificate before commencing any works to which Part B of the Second Schedule of the Building Regulations, 1997 apply.

This primarily affects all works to non-domestic buildings and includes extensions (greater than 25 square metres) and material alterations to existing buildings and the construction of new buildings.

The types of buildings to which the requirement applies include:-

  • health care uses including hospitals ,
  • nursing homes,
  • clinics,
  • guest accommodation including hotels,
  • guest houses,
  • B & B's
  • apartments,
  • shops,
  • assembly & recreation buildings,
  • including schools,
  • halls,
  • restaurants,
  • pubs,
  • gyms
  • industrial and warehouse/storage ,
  • offices.
