Arts and Health Programme

Local authorities, together with the Health Service Executive, may run activities such as painting and drawing, sculpture, music and poetry to encourage people to engage with the arts and improve their health and wellbeing.

Carlow Arts Service works in partnership with a number of local community organisations, artists working in health settings and services that supports Arts and Health Programmes to promote, support and celebrate Arts and Health in all its forms and to create access to the arts for all.

Over the last three years Carlow Arts Service has supported Mobile Music Machine to provide care concerts to our local nursing homes.

Mobile Music Machine is to visit Carlow Care Settings supported through the Creative Ireland Carlow programme we are looking forward to hosting the Mobile Music Machine again as they visit care settings around County Carlow. Mobile Music Machine are delighted to return to Carlow in 2023, to perform 20 Care Concerts in residential care homes and healthcare settings across the county.

These concerts are a continuation of the Covid Care Concerts, which successfully commenced in May 2020 and have to date seen over 100 of Ireland's leading musical artists perform over 2,000 live concerts in 23 counties, reaching an audience of 150,000, providing access to the arts for all.

With the generous support of Carlow County Council Arts Office, Creative Ireland Creativity in Older Age Scheme and Healthy Ireland, this work will continue in Carlow in 2023, with 20 concerts planned to take place over the coming months.

  • Week 1: 28th and 30th July- Orla Fallon, singer/harpist, Lynda O Connor, violin, Gerald Peregrine, cello
  • Week 2: 21st and 22nd August- Jerry Fish, singer, Gerald Peregrine, cello, Vincent Lynch, piano
  • Week 3: 2nd and 3rd October- Anthony Kearns, tenor, Gerald Peregrine, cello, Vincent Lynch, piano
  • Week 4: 6th and 7th November- Sandra Oman, soprano. Gerald Peregrine, cello, Vincent Lynch, piano.
