Housing Repairs Support Scheme

Local authorities may provide financial support to social housing tenants to carry out improvement works to their homes.

Who Qualifies for this Scheme?

Carlow County Council tenants who have their rent paid up to date and where the proposed works are considered desirable by the Council’s Engineer. 

Works Covered Under the Scheme

External

  • Repairs of Windows/Doors.
  • Repairs/Replacement of Gutters/Downpipes.
  • Repairs/Replacement /Painting of Fascia/Soffits.
  • External Painting of House.
  • Replacement of Timber Garden Sheds
  • Repair/Replacement of Boundary Fences/Gates

Internal

  • Repairs/ Replace Doors/Presses.
  • Repair/ Replacement of Sinks/ Kitchen Presses.
  • Internal Painting. 

Amount of Grant Payable

  • 50% of the cost of the work subject to a maximum of €2,000.
  • The minimum estimated cost of the proposed works must not be less than €300 i.e. €150 is minimum grant.

Who Organises to Have the Work Done? 

When you have been awarded a grant, you should arrange to have the works carried out by a VAT registered contractor/supplier. When the work is complete you must send invoices from the contractor/supplier to the Council.  Payment of the grant will be made after a successful inspection by Carlow County Council and receipt of invoices. Payment of the grant will then be made to you. 

The 2025 scheme will open for applications from 14th January until Friday 28th March 2024. 

Tenants are responsible for paying for the works themselves. This is a grant scheme paid directly to tenants.
