A/CFO Ben Woodhouse; ‘Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service are a very progressive Fire Authority with a strategic vision of future challenges facing a Fire & Rescue Service and how to meet those challenges. With an innovative approach keen to harness technology we have recently developed the first ECO Class Fire Appliance, Digital Alerting of other road users, Thermal Imaging Drones, an All Terrain Wildland Firefighting Vehicle and developments to manage contamination at the Fire Services Learning & Development Centre, Hacketstown. I am very proud to lead this Fire Authority and it is important to me to acknowledge and recognise our staff, both current and past who have all contributed to the foundation and legacy of a leading Fire Authority in Ireland for which this heritage video encompasses.’
Dr Eoin Sullivan, Carlow County Councils Heritage Officer; ‘The Heritage of our Emergency Services is something we rarely think of, many of us know the personalities and appreciate the amazing work they do. This video is an action of the County Carlow Heritage Plan (2024-2029), aiming to tell something of the story of the heritage of our Emergency Services in County Carlow. Who’d have thought about the work of drying fire hoses or how Willie O’Neill became an honorary member of the Fire Service. Special thanks to all involved, active and retired members of both services. The video of the Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service was launched today by Cathaoirleach Cllr. Thomas Kinsella.
