Bathing Prohibition Notice in place on the River Barrow.
Carlow County Council regrets to inform you that we have implemented a temporary bathing prohibition notice in the following Designated Bathing Areas on the River Barrow:
- Bagenalstown Swimming Pool Designated Bathing Area
- Bagenalstown Boat Slip Designated Bathing Area
This Bathing Prohibition Notice has been recommended by Public Health Officials, because of failed water quality tests which show high levels of bacteria present in both locations on the River Barrow.
Carlow County Council will carry out further tests and investigate the cause of these higher-than-normal levels and will continue to monitor the situation.
Once we have identified the issue and have tests come back clear we will reopen the Designated Bathing Areas on the River Barrow.
