Local elections are held in Ireland every 5 years, in the month of May or June. The elections allow people to elect councillors to represent them in their local authorities.
The Chief Executive and other Management Team members are responsible for the day to day running of the organisation and in particular implementing the policy decisions of the elected Council.
Local authorities maintain a public register which provides details of financial and other interests disclosed by councillors and relevant council employees to uphold standards of integrity, conduct and concern for the public interest.
Local authorities publish a public register of payments to councillors including salaries, allowances, travel and subsistence, and training and conference expenses.
Under the Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999 as amended, each Member of Carlow County Council must complete a Donation Statement each year setting out donations received over the limit specified in the Regulations during the previous year.
