What is Active Travel?
‘Active Travel involves travelling with a purpose, using your own energy via sustainable means. It includes walking, wheeling, and cycling or the use of self-powered, non-motorised scooters as part of a purposeful journey. For example, walking to school and cycling to work are both considered forms of Active Travel’. NTA

Types of Active Travel schemes
The types of schemes that will be delivered by Carlow County Council include:
- Safe Routes to School Programme.
- Improved / segregated cycle paths.
- Permeability measures to support improved access within and between local communities.
- Continued development of our urban space towards prioritising sustainable travel
Active Travel Delivery Programme
Currently, Carlow County Councils Active Travel Programme comprises of approximately 23 active travel schemes, which will be delivered through a series of infrastructural projects, coordinated by the Active Travel Team.
